The name Suwarnadwipa means Land of Gold in Sanskrit and is used to describe island of Sumatra in ancient times. Vihara Suwarnadwipa is situated in Karo Highlands, North Sumatera - Indonesia, against the backdrop of Mount Sibuaten and overlooks the magnificent Lake Toba.
This temple is modeled after South Putuo Temple in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China which was build during the Tang Dynasty.
Vihara Suwarnadwipa aspires to spread the teachings of Buddhist Dharma based on compassion and harmonious living among humanity and all living beings.
